Hello, I recently bought this kit which everyone praise and I found it really excellent, the only downside is the decals which are pre-yellowed I tried the well-known trick of leaving them in direct sunlight for a few days and obtained nothing, they yellower too! Has anybody the same problem and tried a different solution? Thank you Fabio |

There is a Russian airline modeling blog thread about ICM kit. There is a member named "MaximF" that has created an accurate decal sheet for the kit (see example on this page of the blog): http://airliner-models.org/forum/topic/2828-tu-144-icm/page__st__140 However, I have not found anyway of purchasing them. Ivo at BraZ Models offers his three decal versions for the Tu-144. You can email him at: brazmodels@libero.it for price and availablility. I suspect that there will be some other offerings in the not to distant future. Rodger Cook |

Quote Yeah but no but yeah...BraZ decals are excellent but don't fit the ICM kit (windows differ). Except you would fill the windows and refuse the ICM kit advantage - clear windows! |

Except that the windows in the ICM kit aren't accurate either...

Quote Even "inaccurate" clear windows look much more realistic than "accurate" decal windows. |

Think of the fantastic Tu154 built a few days ago you like so much, it has clear windows as well. Decals look toy like, no matter if the position, spacing, shape is ok. For me not only the geometric correctness but also the appearance is a very important part of cumulative accuracy. Like in a discussion we have had here a few weeks ago, the color of the coroguarddecal and not only its shape is part of the whole properness. |

It's still a completely subjective matter of personal taste. You like it one way, others like it another way. Neither one is right and neither is wrong. I'm not going to try to convince you to my view... It just "is". It would be like trying to convince someone who likes redheads that brunettes are better. Or someone who likes vanilla that chocolate is better. It's just not going to happen, and it doesn't make any difference. J |

Quote Well, it depends how many people "know" if the windows of a model kit are correct or not and I'm not the guy who measure it all out. I do not care if a window is 1/297 mm too short or to far left or what else. A model is a model and NEVER a 100% clone of it's original. We have always compromises. And decal windows looks always like a travel agency or a wooster model. I saw decal windows which were oblique or conspicuous to high or to low. In this case I always prefer a somewhat micro-inaccurate shaped or spaced clear window line - anytime! But, again and again: This discussion will NEVER come to an end - NEVER EVER! |

It might be useful to take care about panel lines. Transparent windows vs. decals is a sophisticated matter. Models without panel lines might also look like toys but no one cares about...

1/144 scale clear window reproductions? Sorry but I will stay with decals. And yes, that is just "MY" taste. And what are these 1/144 scale models? A full replica of the 1/1 plane? I think.......TOYS!!!!!!! Model....Toys! Replica....Toys! Almost perfect....Toys! What ever, but toys. If you do no believe, ask the wife and she will tell you, Are you playing with your "TOYS" again? And yes, Maxim decals are super, if any one finds a way to get some, I am inn! Walter |

Quote I have Maxim's laser printed version for the Tu-144D, and it is very well done. And the price is very fair. Rodger Cook |
