Does anyone make American Airlines A300 decals for the old Airfix 1/144th scale kit? It was certainly an attractive bird while they flew them.

Thanks for any pointers,

Robert

No, American only had the A300-600R, which is a very, very different bird from the old Airfix A300B. Wing is in a different place, entire tail end of the fuselage is different, and different engines.

Ok...so the answer to your exact question is no. But as to what I think you may really be asking:

ATP made a set of decals for the American A300 in 1/144. Good luck finding them, and they don't look quite to the standard of what is being produced today.

An A300-600R conversion is possible, use the search and you'll find some talk, even an AA A300-600R in the gallery! Braz made a resin fuselage that is pretty pricey. I believe I saw somewhere (it may have been a different site) a conversion made with the Airfix A300, Revell A310/340, and the Revell Beluga. There are some Braz engines out there too. (CF-6s I believe)

Too tired to dig up/recall more info, but it seems with some creativity/work you're not entirely SOL.

Robert,

Upon further review, the call on the field is reversed. Penalty, 10 yds for the defense.

I feel like you went to a car dealer and asked for a green Mustang GT. Now this shop doesn't have a green Mustang GT, but they have the parts to convert it and a paint shop. Would they tell you "no go pound sand" or "we have a mustang, can trick it out to GT standards, and paint it for you?"

Call me half-full but geeez...

So... question is: do you want to build an Airfix A300 in AA colors, or do you want to build an A300B4-605R(the full designation btw) in AA colors?

Until Bra.Z issued a -600 conversion kit (for the Revell Beluga), all you could do was mating the Airfix fuselage to the Revell Beluga wings and the Revell A310 stabilizers (and the corresponding scuff plates). The fuselage is longer with three windows added aft of door number 3 (11 mm, 0.4') and a smaller section removed under the tail (-7.8 mm, -0.3'). When cutting this section you will find yourself with offset fuselage pieces, you'll need to fill and sand this area. Note that with the three extra windows the rear door is shifted right under the tail root.

Gotcha. Thanks, guys. For some reason, I thought AA flew the stock A300, not the -600. My bad. The Braz conversion is too pricy for my poor blood. At least I can get a set of ATP Continental A300 decals and still make an "American" A300!

No, more like he went to the dealer for a 2012 Mustang GT, but wanted it painted in 1967 Montreal Blue, which is no longer made.
