Keep em separated!

You should check the shipping price before you order. Sending a package from the Netherlands to America is ridiculously expensive due to privatization of the Dutch mail companies.

Not only to the US I promise you....!
I feel sorry for the Aviation Megastore which, I fear, loose trade due to this..!
Any ideas for alternative shipping methods?

Book a flight and combine a holiday with picking up the package. There is no such thing as a Dutch governmental owned postal company, the major company is PostNL which is just another commercial corporation just like DHL and FedEx.

Aviation Megastore has *definitely* lost business as a result. I wanted to buy a tiny PE set that would fit into a regular business letter type envelope, and they wanted to charge me like €24 for the shipping. The PE set was €8! I can mail a letter of similar size & weight to Europe for US $1.05.

So much for the benefits of privatization of government functions, eh?

Jennings,
I couldn't agree more. Having seen many successful examples of privatization, I must sat this Dutch example is really horrendous. Last Saturday I emptied my shopping basket after I found that shipping costs almost equalled the price of a 200 page book and an 1/48 kit for the relative modest distance from Holland to Norway. I really feel sorry for Aviation Megastore which is an excellent firm with an always up-to-date inventory...

It wouldn't surprise me if they ever move their shop to another country (like Germany) to avoid the shipping costs. Which I won't like as it is only a 20 min drive for me now

Well if you need something, just ask, I always wanted to visit Norway and the US..........

Same story as others, used to use Aviation Megastore quite a lot, but when I got hit with the new postal charges, gave it away, a great pity, as I really liked dealing with them
