Hi everybody, Just wondering if anybody could comment Heller's 1/125 Boeing 727-200 and Douglas DC-9 kits ? I saw a 727 reissue in Alaska Airlines livery (pretty easy to find) in my favourite hobbyshop but the box is sealed. For the DC-9, I saw it on an auction site. I was very satisfied with the 747, L-1011, A300, A320, 737 and Mercure kits while I found the DC-10 to be a real dog... Many thanks for your help. Regards, Brend Selamat Datang ! |

Well, it is molded in white plastic (too similar in quality to the DC-10 in Aeromexico's livery), with raised details (yes, panel lines and rivets), those rivets seems to me overscaled, and they are candidates to be sanded away. The fuselage halves (in my case) are warped, so they need to be inmersed in hot water to solve the problem. The passenger windows also seems to me overscaled, implying the need to cover them with putty. The cockpit are worked a-la Minicraft, i.e., one clear part cover the cockpit area (as in the MC 757 or 737 or MD80) and this piece is nice molded. The decals are very similar in quality to the Airfix decals, and only you can represent the Alaska plane (seems to be diffucult find decals for other liveries in this scale). It so close in quality to the DC-10, but with some effort you can render a nice 1:125 722. Best Regards |

Hi abraham, Thank you very much for the information. I will rush to the hobby shop and grab one, it is certainly a better rendition than Doyusha's 1/100 Boeing 727 kit. The Heller 747, 737, L-1011 and A320 are truly nice kits while the DC-10 is (my very own opinion) average. Those separate Karmann composite fairings... jeeezzz ! What were the Heller dudes thinking of when they designed the kit Thanks ! Regards, Brend Selamat Datang ! |
