While we're talking about the bigger scales, has anyone had experience with this kit? I'm thinking of doing an ATA TriStar if I can figure out where I can get the decals made. DRAW Decal has them for the ATA 73's and 75's in 1/144 but I don't think anyone has them for the L10 in any scale.

The Entex/Nitto/Doyusha L-1011 is my favorite of all the L-1011 kits out there. It is very accurate and nicely detailed. (I like it even better than the Otaki kit, if you can believe that!) The only thing to note about it is that it represents an early production TriStar, so you're on your own for the later RB.211s with the revised afterbodies. You can modify the kit parts, though, if you can get hold of decent pictures (and shop manuals, if you have access). Having worked with Greg a few times I think you could be able to persuade him to modify the ATA artwork and scale it up for the 1011. It may cost you extra, but for this kit it would be worth it. For my money, the 1:100 TriStar is the most majestic of all the L-1011 kits out there, and it really captures the "TriSaurus" effect beautifully. It's a big model and it really lets you get an idea of just what a big, beautiful monster the TriStar is. I can look out its cabin windows and it almost feels like I'm aboard one again! jodie Fly Alaska's first airline. Wien Air Alaska. |

Quote I have the Brasil Decals sheet for the TriStar in 1/144 (#144-152) which includes two ATA machines: 1) N192AT with 'Hawaii' on the fin and 'Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays' titles on fuselage. 2) N164AT with palm tree design on the fin. There are photos of both on airliners.net. If you could get hold of this sheet, perhaps you could get someone to scale it up for you. Regards, Al Al |

Thanks for the info -- this was my first post on the forum and I'm already getting great help. As for scaling up the Draw Decals ATA set, it represents the new "flag" livery on the 738s, 752s and 753s, which the L10s have never worn. I rarely see the ATA TriStars up close except when I visit the corporate HQ in Indianapolis, but supposedly at least one of the planes now has a solid blue tail. Since these a/c are now doing military charters almost exclusively, perhaps the company thought guys over to Iraq wouldn't appreciate getting on a plane with "Hawaii" on the fin. I haven't seen the alleged bluetail yet but the "Pleasant Hawaiian" and "Palm Tree" liveries are still around. Supposedly ATA wants to replace the L10s with 767s later this year if it can. Can anyone point me in the direction of those Brasil decals? |

Hannants (http://www.hannants.co.uk) is about the most reliable source for BrasilDecal sheets. Unfortunately, I just checked and sheet 44152 doesn't appear to be in stock, alas.... jodie Fly Alaska's first airline. Wien Air Alaska. |

You could be in luck. Check out the Luchtvaart Hobby Shop in Holland. (www.lhshop.nl).They have that sheet listed as available. It works out pretty expensive at 27 euros 95, though. Hope this helps, Al Al |
