Happened to find this great close-up on the 'Shanairpic' Flickr Album. Shows the 1st of (2) -212's on it's delivery flight during a stop-over at Shannon in June 1971. Though MSA will always be remembered for their (5) 737-112's, they did place (2) orders for the 200 series and 9V-BCR was the first to be delivered. These 1971 deliveries also show the final MSA colors in which the 'Malaysia-Singapore Airlines' titles were no longer used, instead just 'Malaysia + Singapore'. The 'MSA' on the tail is slightly more angled and the 'Flying Tiger' was not used any longer. (2) ex-BI 707-327C's were also delivered in 1971 and wore this last MSA scheme. 9V-BCR waas transferred to Singapore Airlines as part of the October 1972 break-up and (2) months later was sold to Frontier, becoming N7382F in December. Quite a busy (15) months for this A/C!......John

Neat! Thanks!

Am I suffering a delusion, or was there a very brief period (1972-'73) when MSA was remarketed as "Mercury Singapore Airlines" before the "SIA/Singapore Airlines" identity (yes, I clearly remember "SIA" being used!) steamrolled all prior titles? (Not to mention "MAS" on the other side of the border... "Mas" in Malay apparently meant "gold", and much was made of that for a while...)

But -- MSA/Mercury Singapore Airlines -- any memories of that, anyone?

You're absolutely correct! The MSA letters had become so recognizable that the new Singapore Airlines wanted to keep the 'MSA'-brand, so their initial plan was to be called Mercury Singapore Airlines. I had forgotten about that till you mentioned it but I do remember coming across that in the original research! It's been an amazing time researching in this internet-era. So much material is now available......John
