This is excellent news. So many cool schemes to choose from. I will definitely be getting the Malez and Polish ones, and the CSA one when it comes out ('cos I'm sure you're going to do that one too)

Yes, that's one major difference between the Zvezda kit and all previous ones. Pending actually getting the kit in my hands, I'm tentatively planning on doing decals for the frames on the windscreen and nose area so you don't have to mask all those tiny windows. Please note I said "tentatively planning" - I may go insane trying to make it work!

Thanks. Looks interesting. Difficult to tell from the pics, but it doesn't look quite as refined as the Zvezda kit (which is what I would expect having seen other EE kits). It is notable that they've molded a later production Tu-134A with fewer windows aft on the left side, which was the configuration of the majority of Tu-134As produced.

Hard to believe that within 18 months we've gone from nothing but the Braz resin kit to being awash in Tu-134 kits! Now how about an Il-62/62M!?!?

Nice choice of decals, but have in mind that some are already made, like Malev. BOA already made a sheet for older and newer livery.

Yes, but none have been made to fit the Zvezda kit. I think you will find some major differences between older kits and the Zvezda.

Hi Jennings,

I have one question regarding the decals. Are the windows printed in the cheat line or separate? The latter would be my preference, as I prefer to have open windows. In case of windows printed in the cheat line it will be hard to align the windows correctly over the openings.

Whatever the outcome, I like your work!

Typically I make the stripe a solid color. If I didn't, people who want to use decal windows would complain. In the case of the 134 i'm not sure yet. The windows are quite large, so clear windows will look better. OTOH, the kit's left side window arrangement is not accurate for the vast majority of Tu-134As. I don't have the kit in and yet, so what you see is all that currently exists.

Glad you like them! The 134 is my favorite Soviet airliner ;)

Hi Jennings,

Thanks for your feedback. It certainly is hard to dislike any Tupolev. Soviet planes have something special, and I think many of us have that feeling. It must have been hard for you to seem them in real life in the USA. Personally I like the TU5 a bit more.

Regarding the windows, would it be possible to have e.g. the typical Aeroflot blue cheatline completely solid blue and have two kinds of windows to put over them. One of them being solid grey and the other one being transparent with only the window frame outline? In this you leave the choice to the builder. Of course the decal sheet would become a bit larger, but I can't imagine that it would increase the costs dramatically.

I understand that you will leave your decision making depend on when you have the real thing in your hands. Hope you could consider my request though.

There will definitely be a solid cheat line. What is likely is that I will provide, as you say, two sets of windows. One dark grey with the silver outline, and one with just the silver outline. You would need to cut out the decal from the actual window opening, regardless of whether you use the kit clear part or come back afterward and use Krystal Kleer or something similar. Once I get the kit in hand I can make a more informed decision.

Meantime, for the more adventurous among us, here's the Tu-134SKh agricultural survey variant. It has a flat-bottomed camera pallet under the fuselage with a sliding door covering the camera apertures, plus twin S-1SKh 'Nit' radar pods under the wing roots. I'm afraid I can't do that part as a decal, so you're on your own Pretty unusual, and eye-catching.

Possibly. Their airplanes all carried coats of arms of the cities for which they were named. Doing all of those would add about 50 colors and a huge amount of complexity to the decal.

Everybody has a full time day job, so putting dates on things isn't a good idea. Life usually intervenes.
