Just got my EE Il-18. I'm very impressed on first look. The surface detail is some of the best I've seen, and is very reminiscent of the Zvezda Tu-144. There is virtually no flash to speak of, and from what I can see thus far, it looks like they've pretty well nailed the shapes - especially the radome. I'm packing for a trip this weekend, but will try to give it a more thorough going-over soon. J |

Yes, sorry, ICM. I strongly suspect the molds were cut by them. The kit has the same look & feel to it. Liveries - mine is the red/white Aeroflot arctic ice recce version boxing. Also has Domodedovo Airlines markings for the same basic paint scheme. There will be LOTS of Il-18 decals coming soon! The thought of getting brand new, absolutely beautiful 1/144 injection molded kits of my two favorite Soviet airliners (Il-18 and Tu-134) within a month of each other is just more than my old Cold Warrior brain can handle The short list: CAAK/Air Koryo CAAC Old Aeroflot Egypt Air Cubana Balkan Tarom |

Hi all! My mailman obliged me today with the EE IL-18. It is all what Jennings claims it for! A fantastic nice kit in almost all aspects. After a quick in-box screening I am amazed by the detail level. Flap hinges, inspection hatches, air vents on the engines and nicely engraved panel lines - plus fuselage and wing reinforcements faithfully reproduced highlight this model. The overall shape looks very correct including the very characteristic nose contours. The parts are generally crisply moulded. The only mild criticism is towards the decal sheet. I ordered the last (?) Aeroflot version and the cheat lines are zaggy and the print quality of reg. and a/c type name vary in clarity from one side of the fuselage to the other. It is interesting to note that inside the starboard wing there is a moulded info that the kit is "Produced by 44 Master group of manufacturers". Maybe this is a centrally manufacturing company moulding kits for several kit brands (ICM, Zvezda and Eastern Express)? This would be very welcome as the IL-18 is FAR superior to other EE kits I have in posession as A318, B731 and IL-96. I am going to order a few more to dress them up with Jenning's and Ray's forthcoming decals! I'll wait with exitement for Jennings' evaluation of this kit when he's back from his week-end trip! All the best, Harry B. |
