The question of art and understanding of it will always be debatable...at least it is a matter of taste.. If I want to see that kind of art I go to The Museum of Modern Art - and to the airport to look at aeoroplanes. By all means, I respect those who want to see a/c decorated by Picasso-inspired art - everyone can't have stripes and lightning-bolts as his favorites. -Harry B. (-sorry this wasn't really an answer to your question.. :-) |

Please choose a topic title suitable to the question at hand. "Okay, I gotta as about this one." , could mean a million things. Also, it will actually get more views and possibly a quicker answer if people can see right away what the thread is about. Somebody must've been on acid when they drew up that scheme. Regards, |

Jeff Jarvis said: And, as for the airplane..............perhaps.....Alexander Calder on acid???? From the Braniff pages: www.braniffpages.com/calder/calder.html On the DC-8, he painted a fish in front of an admiring audience at The 1975 Paris Air Show. He had painted two other designs (including "Beastie" the eight legged cow pictured above on the No.1 engine) on the engine nacelles at Dallas Love Field. The engine nacelle for the 727 "Flying Colors of the United States" was painted by Calder at the Love Field base also. Calder was known for his love of wine, and would often have a bottle with him in the hangar. As one BI maintenance person said," When we were painting "Flying Colors," Calder would come over make a few suggestions and then go over and pass out." Art is a personal preference: I for one really do admire the "one-off" wild and modern paint schemes on an airliner. Beautiful machines with a matching paint scheme. I do wonder if there's truth the the Calder/wine connection story or not. Ken |

OK, there was a missing "k" here. Equatoriana had some of the coolest paint jobs. I saw a 720 on approach to MIA ages ago, and it was totally amazing! Say what you like about Mr. Calder, but his stuff, including his mobiles were waaaay cool, whether he was trashed, or not! Beats the hell out of all the white whales flying about... if you axe me! Dana BFA, University of Florida, '71 OK figure it out.... |

Not sure if that particular scheme was ever done, but Brasil Decals did an Ecuatoriana sheet that had two "unique acid paint jobs" on the same sheet, one for the 720 http://www.airliners.net/photo/Ecuatoriana/Boeing-720-023(B)/1832131/L/&sid=f67a8a837a72b494b0229161259c525e and one for the 707. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Ecuatoriana/Boeing-707-321B/1826832/L/&sid=f67a8a837a72b494b0229161259c525e Tropical Decals did this one as well. Great decal. "MY" personal preference is colorful airliner schemes. What I call "ugly" is a "white whale" http://www.airliners.net/photo/Malaysia-Airlines/Airbus-A380-841/2092874/L/&sid=3f97ea9dbfda7eaa0741b2b04c9a27b4 But model "whatever makes you happy" right!
