I'm wondering what might be the best way to get some decent NG engines for the Revell B737-800. I know that there are the In-Formations/Contrails and Braz resin engines. I also know that the BraZ ones are discontinued. What are the opinions of people here on the resin engines or about modifying the Revell engines? I've seen the article by Viking/Dave on BritMod. Thank you for any comments. Grant |

Hello Grant, I do not remember Braz offering CFM56s for RoG's 737-800. I bought Contrails's CFM56s but was quite disappointed with them, the casting IMHO did not reflect the price paid (the same price I paid for the 737-800 kit actually). Mind you, this is not a competitor's point of view, it is a simple customer's point of view. But I "may have got an old set, the new ones are much better", it is often the case. I read many persons are pleased with his offerings. Sorry I cannot help more. Cheers, Steven |

Thank you, Steven. Looking at several photos of the Contrails engines, I noticed the same thing. I thought that I had read that one of the resin engines might not be very good, but cannot find that thread right now. The photos of the darker resin ones look much better. Best wishes, Grant |

If you were not happy with the engines you should have e-mailed me so I could resolve the issue. The engines were redesigned about 5 months ago due to issues with casting as one piece. Thanks Michael Bolden Contrails |

Hi Grant i have gone with modifying the Revell ones this way first i found an off cut of plastic PVC tube 3/8" at work i cut a small ring off this with a stanley knife then cut a small bit off as seen in the picture below ![]() i then put this upto the revell engine and marked where i had to cut the existing ring thats provided with the revell engine in order for this bit of tube to fit correctly the section marked in black was cut off ![]() the piece cut out of the existing ring provided by revell ![]() i then glued on the small bit of PVC pipe where i had cut out i made the pipe slightly wider the the revell ring so i could sand it back flush ![]() the front of the intake as it looks now after modifcation ![]() ![]() ![]() the modified engine next to the revell engine i need to do this one now and also need to fill the new engine and sand it back ![]() This is the finished result ![]() ![]() ![]() Richard |

Thank you, Richard. The engines look nice. One thing that I had done was to search the net for photos, especially ones directly from the front to get a better view on the shape of the NG engines. It left me a bit confused as I found it a little hard to determine the differences between the classic and NG engines. This is a link to a China Post article, Monday, June 20, 2011, with a good head on view of what is labeled a SWA -700. It's the best but the engines doesn't seem so rounded to my eyes. Perhaps I'm being confused between the more rectangular shape of the nacelles and the more circular shape of the inlet. http://www.chinapost.com.tw/business/company-focus/2011/06/20/306810/Boeing-refuses.htm And a link to Thomas Becker's Flicker account of a Luxair -7C9. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomasbecker/2350432717/in/photostream/ I hope that it is OK to do this. Are there any good set of plans of the engines that I use to get a better idea of the shape of the engines, especially the inlet? Sorry, a week ago I couldn't tell anything about about the later 737s and am still shakey about the details. Best wishes, Grant |
