does anyone know if the convair 990 had the same landing gear as the convair 880?
i am building the 990 but the landing gear is so flimsy was wondering if i could use the
gear from my glencoe 880 kit as a replacement?
thanks for any suggestions.
kind regards, carl

Don't know if the landing gear is the same or different between the 880 and 990. Jon Proctor has a book on the Convair 880 and 990 that would be the first place I'd start looking to find out. Dunno the scale of the 990 you are building but do know the Glencoe 880 kit is 1/126.

You can also go on flickr.com to find photos put on there by the San Diego Air & Space Museum. Try this site:http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=49487266@N07&q=Convair%20990

Hi Carl!
I have looked into my edition of John Proctor's book about the CV-880/990.
He states:"...landing gear was beefed up to allow heavier operating weights....the main gear strut was 10 inches longer than that of the 880 and attached lower in the wing structure. As a result the airplane stood approx. 18 inches higher at the main gear and sloped betw. one and two degrees downward toward the nose."
So says the Book ... :-)

thank you all for your imput regarding my convair 880-990 question. i did refer to john proctor's book as suggested
and it was very helpful. finally completed my 990 and looks striking in the AA lightning bolt scheme. lot of work with this kit, but worth it. now, back to work on my AA 727-100 in the same livery. thanks again, guys.
best regards, carl
