Is there really *no* interest in this? This is a real livery (see www.airliners.net), not a what-if.

Being an old UA fan, yes. Knowing its CO doing business as UA, I'm neutral. I have "issues" with SMI/J

Hats off to y'all for getting this ready so quickly. I'd be more intrigued, except that:

1. I only plan to build one 787, and have the livery already picked out
2. As a former CO loyalist, this is a case of "livery is pretty but 1:1 airline breaks my heart."

That said, if the line were expanded to give us 737 and 757 CO/UA liveries with the proper non-metallic stripe and globe, I'd be very interested in that. I've flown a ton of miles on those and have so many memories.

Fly Alaska's first airline. Wien Air Alaska.

Yes and no. I'm a Continental guy, so anything with the globe on the tail gets my interest. I hate the merger but its a done deal, so I have to deal with the United titles on the fuselage, but the font is all wrong. I'm hoping that United will adopt the old Continental font which looked so much classier and elegant. When and if they do, I'll definitely be in for a bunch of new UA decals.

PS. Any chance of adding a "What if" "United" or "Continental" in the old font? I'd be all over this if you did!

Actually they originally showed the merger livery using the Continental lettering style, and even posted advertising art on their web site for a few days showing it (I grabbed all of it!). Within about a week however, they changed to the current hideously ugly sans-serif block style "UNITED" (much against all good taste). I suspect they wanted more of a departure from the "Contininted" look.

We could definitely throw both lettering styles in there though...

J

PS: Here was my initial UA 787 profile...

Nice. Please keep us posted here on this. Seriously, in proper Continental titles, I'll go for one.

Or maybe CO's mgt was throwing a bone to UA?

Well, their management was certainly superior to UA's!!! Their only mistake? Agreeing to the merger in the first place!

I can confirm that the F-Dcal sheet will have the current (real world) UNITED titles, the originally shown "United" titles in the Continental font, and "Continental" titles. You can do your model as the real thing delivered by Boeing, or as one of the two "fantasy" variations.

Keep an eye on the F-Dcal web site, as Philippe doesn't usually tell me when it's ready to go. www.f-dcal.fr

Jennings,

Have you ever done a "what if" drawing of the 787 in the Braniff pinstripe scheme?

Well,
I am a bit of an old school United tulip boy and after seeing the continited 777 again at Bahrain airport yesterday it becomes harder and harder to tolerate this livery...

Seems like on both sides of the merger they screwed it up with this makeshift livery hey...

Quality wins!

The United scheme: So true, so true... My first plane ride was in a United 737-200, when I was in the US Navy. It was this livery, or the one preceding it- The wider cheatline with the windows centered on the red line, and smaller fuselage titles. It was a long time ago, early 1977- Any help on which scheme it was, Jennings?

Probably the early version of the red/orange/blue with the smaller titles and windows in the red cheatline. I don't think the modified version with the lower cheatline and bigger titles came along until around 1984 or so.

Btw J, do you know what font they used for the United red-orange-blue scheme?
I might go and print some decals myself for a future project... Picked up a Welsh Jetstream-31 in scale 1/144 the other day...

I wouldn't mind doing that fantasy 787 for real to be honest and give it to my stephmother in the UA office in Brussels! lol
Might cause an emotional stir...

Quality wins!

It's not a font. The lettering was unique to the word "UNITED".
