Kit: Airfix VC-10 K2 Tanker
Scale: 1:144
Extras: Braz resin engines and leading edge. Welsh Models metal landing gear.
Decals: F-Silk + TwoSix + custom
Build Thread here on Irish Scale Modeller

Hey guys!

I know it's not really a civilian airliner but I thought I'd share my latest finished model with you as I normally post up here with my civvy models. It's the Airfix VC-10 K2 Tanker kit modified with Braz resin engines and leading edge to reflect an RAF VC-10 C1K. I also used a metal landing gear by Welsh Models. The decals are a mix of F-SILK and TwoSix with some custom thrown in here and there. I initially started with the F-SILK but when I applied the cheatline it almost disappeared against the grey. I didn't like how the window colour turned out either. The colours on the sheet looked nothing like the colours when applied to the model which was a surprise for silk screen decals. Luckily I had the TwoSix laser printed decals on hand and was happy with the results.

If anyone would like to see the build thread it's here on Irish Scale Modeller.

Thanks for looking!
Vinny

That is a cracker Vinny !
The wheels certainly look the most realistic I've seen on a VC-10.

Beautiful job. Takes me right back. Brize Norton was my first posting in the RAF and I must have refuelled that aircraft countless times when she was still in passenger configuration with 10 Sqn in the old grey and white livery (Albert Ball VC). Ah, the memories.

PS: Dont worry about it not really being a civilian airliner. At least it started life as a civilian airliner, which is more than can be said for the WWII fighter planes and other military types that keep finding their way onto the site.

This is very nice. And I also agree with baby9 on the tip lights! Can't wait to build a VC-10.

Vinny,
Beautiful. I really liked reading the build report too. Very clever and effective use of tape on the tyres. Glad to see the modelling scene in Ireland is thriving. I enjoyed visiting the first Irish Nationals show in Cork 2 years ago.
Is the RAF retiring the VC-10 soon? Last chance next year to see one flying at a UK airshow?

Vinny, she looks the dog's proverbial b******s, you jammy so and so! _And_ quick, judging by the build report. Really enjoyable and inspirational!

Thanks very much guys for all the great comments and positive feedback. I'm really glad some of you enjoyed the build report too and that it might have given you some ideas.

@Andy: I think (I wouldn't be sure) that the VC-10s are retiring in March 2013 I got to see my last ones in July at RIAT and Brize. Such an iconic British aircraft. As for the Irish model scene... it's ticking over, it's just about got a heart beat! Hahah! It seems like most of the modellers are into AFV... or else they're obsessed with Irish Air Corps aircraft. Not many airliner modellers out there, I think I'm only one of a handful.

@Skippiebg: Thanks but I would say it was quick For a speed record breaking aircraft my build was far too slow... about 10 months working on it here and there.

Thanks again chaps!

All the best!
Vinny

Great work!

Using this opportunity I'd like to ask - what is the difference between http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/BZ4039 and http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/BZ4040 (maybe somebody have photos of these parts) and what actually contains this item http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/BZ4041?
