Good evening all, I'm planning a 787-9 in Vietnam Airlines' latest color scheme (Ascensio decals on their way). Also in the planning is the A350 in their colors (once somebody issues the decals !!). So, does anyone have a clue what would be a good match for the fuselage and engines blue/green ? Thanks, Jan |

Try this as a starting point. The VN colour is Pantone PMS 3025. I started there and came up with a mix that's pretty close for an A321 a few years back. Did it with Gunze acrylics then. Good luck finding them now. Also, I didn't devise a formula (sorry). Just started with the closest blue I had and began adding orange and purple (orange to flatten, purple for shading) until I got what I wanted. In total, there must be 6 different paints involved. Totally agree..it's a BEAR of a colour to match. Alan Aronoff |

Hi @ all! Just found this older thread and have the same question. Has anybody some newer advice about a colour match for Vietnam Airlines? Greetings Daniel Currently on the line: |

Jan, Ascensio released Vietnam Airlines A350 recently (around the same time as they did the 787 set). I've both sheets but the instructions are in Russian, so to me aren't much help. In fact my post isn't going to help much either other than letting you know that the A350 decals have been released. Jeff |

No disrespect to Ascensio (I'm a fan of their products) but I've bought the Authentic Airliners Vietnam A350 sheet which is stunning and unlikely to be bettered. It comes complete with AA's wonderful photo-real windows. If you go to the the link given by Xradar and click on the 787 decals (not the A350) you will find details of a colour mix using Mr Color paint. |

I have used both decals from AA and Ascensio and found no issues with either one on other models. I do having tried to find the closest match to the real thing but so far have tried every colour in my model shop to do a test. with no luck think this is going to have to be mixed just hope a main stream paint company would do more for use airline guys by producing paint for the airliners. I know extra colour do a few but with no new ones arriving for a long time Tui mad |

The reason Xtracolor hasn't done any in a long time is because they couldn't give most of them away. It's just a fact of life that airliner-specific stuff like that is a recipe for losing money.

I just mixed it with 4 Gunze acrylics. 2 blues, an orange, and a violet. Don't even ask what proportions. I just mix until I hit the shade. Alan Aronoff |

That’s the best way to mix paint. I’ve never found someone else’s formulas to be worth a hoot.

Quote To say nothing of the reality that enamel paint cannot be shipped by air, which effectively limits the market for Xtracolor paint to Europe. And...agreed with radioguy and Jennings that "Don't even ask what proportions. I just mix until I hit the shade." seems to be the best and most practical way to mix paint when custom colors or a straight from the bottle/tinlet 'close enough is good enough' match is not available.
