sorry, but i cant take them for serious anymore. they annouce so many kits, and when something new comes up, it is a shitty copy of the daco 737. What about their DC-10, MD80, Q400, BAC 1-11 ?!?! plus their price policy is hillarious... Atari |

Quote You forget about Vickers Viscount, Antonov An-22 Early and Bombardier CS110. It is already possible to trace the pattern, that the EE normally fits into the time frame, 4-5 month from first announced 3D renders (or boxart) till the first test sprues and additional 2-3 month before the start of sales. Quote I totally agree. I've never made any secret of my dislike of EE, the piracy, the rip off prices (yes, yes I know not to buy from Hannants but that's not the point) and the generally poor quality of their products. After the A318 I swore I'd never touch another of their kits but against my better judgment I decided to buy an MD-11 hoping the involvement of Mikro Mir would have improved things. Big mistake. Absolutely definitely never again. They can announce anything they like but I won't be buying it. |

Have that ultimately abandoned anything they've announced? No. Just because their schedule doesn't match yours just means you're not in the model kit business.

I certainly won't defend their pricing policy or their piracy of other kits; however, not all of their stuff is rubbish. Their 717 and Shorts 360 are rather nice looking (at least in the boxes). Their An-22 is quite nice as well. Are a few good kits enough to offset the negatives? That is up to each person to decide... Mike "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!" |

The enmity to EE never ceases to amaze me. The cited reasons are piracy and (lately) high prices. Well, was Minicraft any better? We have it on the record that their 777 (for one) was pirated from Doyusha. The 737 show signs of some Airfix, ahem... "influence". As to prices, Minicraft were always very expensive and today are over-the-top outrageous. Any protests? I can't hear any, apart from the odd harrumph... Are other cottage industry players any better, piracy-wise? (Yes, EE _is_ a straight-down-the-line _cottage_industry_player_. Their packaging and moulding may rival mainstream parameters, but are merely short run stuff as typical of any other cottage indistry name.) All (perhaps bar one) vacform, resin and injection mould cottage industry players are tempted to pirate stuff from mainstream makers: - a very well known vacform maker copied their Vanguard from a prime injection moulding maker warts-and-all, and used the same prime maker's 707, 737, DC-9, One-Eleven and Caravelle, and another prime maker's 747 and DC-10 as bases for a 707-320B/C, 737 Classic, MD-80, One-Eleven 500, Super Caravelle, 747SP and MD-11; - I have in my hand a recent release by another cottage industry maker which betrays signs of a close relationship with a mainstream kit released some two decades ago; - et cetera, ad nauseam... As to prices, I don't think EE haters have a leg to stand on -- all cottage makers are pricey, and EE is among the less outrageous pricers by any measure. So, having discounted the stated reasons of piracy and pricing as genuine reasons for the hatred, I can only assume it is due to someone collecting kickbacks for trolling EE. Conspiracy theories aren't my forte, however, so I shall settle on EE's being Russian as the real reason. -- PS Having got all this off my chest, hey! We have another Convair 880 coming our way! It's like the 1960s once again! Whoopee..!!! --- PPS And yes -- some EE kits are dead sh*tty and/or embarrassingly obviously pirated: the A318, 777, 757 and forthcoming 737 Classic come to mind... But others are jewels! ---- PPPS But it also happens to be true that some W*lsh Mo*els, etc., kits ade dead sh*tty -- all I am saying is, keep thing in proportion and don't allow infantility to come to the surface. Like, if your wife cooks you a celebration dinner you privately happen to hate, do you "not make any secret of my dislike of it, the fact she has copied the recipe from my mother, the rip off prices she has paid for the ingredients (yes, yes I know she does not buy from Waitrose but that's not the point) and the generally poor quality of her cooking ... I swore I'd never touch another of her celebration dinners but against my better judgment I decided to eat one hoping her watching Super Chef on TV would have improved things. Big mistake. Absolutely definitely never again. She can announce anything she likes but I won't be eating it. " Well, do you..? Or do you eat it up politely, say a hurried thanks, and hope she will get the message..? Like the hypothetical wife above, these people are making things for us to enjoy. They are not administering Novichok gas to us. They are not annexing our version of the Crimea. They are not starting frozen conflicts in our modelling den. They are making kits for us to, hopefully, enjoy. Period! Pouring cold water on their efforts is in extremely poor taste. All the worse for us if we pour said cold water over their efforts before we've even seen them... |

Very well articulated. I entirely agree, these guys who put there passion & effort into producing kits that we can all enjoy & critique - I take my hat off to them. Plus - what would the point of this forum if we have nothing to comment & chew the fat over. |

I understand a "wait and see" approach to anything Eastern Express does - or, for that matter, any manufacturer. Any of us who hotly anticipated the Minicraft 757 or Electra 20 years ago only to be greeted with the disappointments those kits were in the box knows too well why we do that. But the Minicraft that brought us a disappointing 757 and a horrible Electra is also the one that brought us a beautiful DC-4, an MD-80 that was a real milestone at the time, and a DC-8 that still amazes me. The same is true for Welsh kits, some of which have been wonderful and others of which have left me cold. Not everybody's going to be a Kurt Lehmann, where the questions aren't about quality so much as "how much will it cost?" and "can I get one before the production run sells out?" That's why I wait to see what the product's going to look like in real life (or, preferably, get to inspect said item) before I render a judgment and/or hand over funds. There has been a lot said about Eastern Express on this forum, and some of it is justified. Some EE kits I wouldn't give the time of day to because...well, let's say they look familiar and don't do anything to enhance the value. For that EE does deserve criticism. More recent efforts have shown EE is stretching its capabilities. The DC-9-30 that got talked about half a year ago is a darn nice kit, and if they had got the engine pylons correct (which can be fixed easily, but I still wish they'd nailed it first time through) I'd say it was worth the price. It's a smartly-designed kit that shows an encouraging side of Eastern Express. It has me looking forward to what the DHC-8s will be like when I finally get one, and even though the Convair 880 isn't really in my wheelhouse I might be interested in one if that kit is along the DC-9's level of refinement. For whatever it's worth, EE's location in Russia has no bearing on my opinions about the product. The kits come from where the kits come from, and taking out my feelings about the Russian government by criticizing or refusing to purchase a model kit (a leisure/luxury item, mind you) made in Russia will not accomplish anything, any more than I'd be putting the screws to the Chinese government by refusing to buy an iPhone or a Trumpeter kit. Some people have different feelings, I know, but to me it's one of those things I rather pragmatically accept in a global economy in an imperfect world. (Besides, there are things we make here in the United States I don't buy either, not because I want to make a point about anything but because I'd rather spend my money on something else.) Jodie Peeler In 1924 Wien was Alaska's first airline. In 1980 it still is. |

Well said Jodie! Actually, you articulated my thoughts to a tee. Glad someone can put my thoughts into words in a well written way! I think you need to write all of my thoughts for me.... err no, bad idea! Keep em separated! |
