According to the aeromoe airline fleets website the one and only DC-8F-55 (N1509U) that Braniff acquired via merger with Panagra in 1967 was (or was to have been?) painted in BN's orange 'jellybean' livery. Since the only photos of this airframe I have found show it in Panagra's basic white/yellow/green DC-8 livery with Braniff International titles and BI tail logo...and N1509U, according to records, served with Braniff for a total of only six months in two stretches of 3 months each, split by 3-month lease to Seaboard World...

Did Braniff's sole DC-8F-55, N1509U, ex-Panagra, ever actually appear in BN's Orange 'Jellybean' scheme and, if so, does photo evidence exist? ...or was it merely a plan that went unfulfilled due to '09U's short tenure with Braniff?

JetSet actually released a decal for this very plane years ago. But actual pictures are very hard to come by. The closest I came to a photo was a low resolution thumbnail, but truthfully it could have been a DC-8-30. Still looking for a decent photo because I have a partially built Revell DC-8 on my shelf of doom waiting for this scheme.

      Best regards...Duncan

Panagra/Braniff's leased N1509U was actually never painted in the 'Jellybean' colors. Just (2) of the ex-Panagra's DC-8's were painted in JB colors (Dark Panagra Green-N1800 & Original Orange-N1801). We have photo's of N1509U during it's Seaboard lease and it remained in Panagra colors w/ BI titles and upon it's return to Braniff, it was then returned to MDC within a month or two to be replaced by the new -62CF. N1801 would turn out to be the only Original Orange painted 'Jellybean' DC-8 though, as the new '67 Orange was used on the -62. The new '67 Orange was almost the same tone, just a pinch deeper looking. Over the past few years there have been quite a few Orange N1801 photos being posted.....
