Looks like I'll be starting "down the rabbit hole" to build a Buffalo Airways C-46 in 1/144 scale. Platz C-46's seem to be getting a little rare other than Ebay. Can anyone confirm that the C-46 ECM version with the thimble radar nose does/does not have a regular nose piece as well? If a regular nose would be an easy buy/build. If just a thimble nose might be easier to track down a kit with the regular nose.

Three bladed props are a concern and I see mention that the Roden DC-6 kits come with two sets of props so one can theoretically build the DC-6 and have four extra props to do two C-46's.

Should be a fun project but aint gonna be cheap requiring the Roden DC-6 to donate props as well as the after market decal.

      Hi Ken,

Platz first issued the C-46 as a kind of resin kit, before the current injection moulded one.
I have 2 kits of the resin issues, PC4:5800 TDF-TP-9 Flying Diver, and PC5:5800 C-46/R5C. The last
one has both 3 and 4 bladed props included. The first one only has the 4 bladed one.

      Happy modelling,
      Ruben

From what I recall, the ECM kit has a separate plastic nose piece for the ECM nose. So the original kit is converted into the ECM version.

And 3-bladed props can be sourced from a Corsair.

The ECM parts are separate on these kits. Alternative 3-blade props might also be had from the Roden VC-118 "Independence" kit, since it has two different sets of props included, and then you won't be tossing kits away just for the props! If the Platz kits are scarce on eBay, you might check Amazon.
