WOW! These are beautiful! How may I order them when they are made available? Will they be sold through one of the current vendors or will you sell them directly, Jennings? Really really nice.

Theyíre not printed yet, but will be going to the printer soon. Probably a couple of months at the lest. Iíll post something when theyíre available.

You can buy them directly via our web site at: www.fundekals.com

We do have a couple of resellers onboard, but honestly, Jonathan handles that end of things and I canít even tell you who they are .

I got tired of waiting for somebody to do them right. On the CO/UA sheet, I believe ours will be the first one in history to be done in the correct color of coppery-brown. AFAIK every other decal ever done has been done with metallic gold, which the real thing most assuredly is NOT. I took my Pantone fan deck with me on a trip last year and sat there looking at UA airplanes in various areas of light and shadow, as well as staring out the window at the winglet of the E175 I was riding on to come up with my estimate of what the color is.

Jennings are you planing to release United decals for Zvezda's B-773, B-787-8/-9??? I'm also looking forward for a United B-744 decal since you got the coppery- brown spot on.

United & Continental (regular, SkyEco and Star Alliance), and Delta (regular and SkyTeam) are currently available in 1/200 from DRAW Decal if you need them.

When Continental introduced their scheme the stripe and tail globe was for sure golden.
This can easily be seen on my photos from stored 727, A300B4 and DC10 in Mojave and Tucson.

Its also very true that all Continental / United planes nowadays fly in that coppery brown color.

So my question is when Continental changed that?

Were any of the early 737-300/500/700/800 aircraft still flying with the golden stripes?

      Cheers,

      Christian

It was never metallic according to someone I know who worked in CO maintenance. It's possible they may have changed the actual color at some point, but I'm not sure. He took pains to say that it was never metallic, and he was working for CO when the new scheme came into being in 1991. He saw them in person every day.

      Jennings,
you were absolutely right and I was wrong about the golden vs brown Continental stripe/tail globe!
I checked my old boneyard images again very carefully, and all A300, DC10, 747, 727 and MD80 I found had that choppery brown color right from the beginning. None of them were metallic golden!

      Cheers,

      Christian

      Jennings,

Any chance that some of those could be cut down to fit the various 737-2/3/4/500 kits? The Continental, United and bare metal American schemes are sorely lacking for those birds.

      Thank you for listening,

      Bob

Possible? Thatís up to you. The CO/UA tail logo is specifically designed for the Zvezda tail, so there is zero chance it will fit the much smaller -200/300/400 tail. American should be no problem, but youíre on your own for the specifics of the registration, etc.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant would you entertain thoughts of releasing some of these decals sized for the earlier Boeings. Otherwise, I'm stuck with the 737-300 CO decals in the Minicraft kit. the 737-300 AA decals in that kit aren't great, either. The -300 is my favorite 737, hence my interest.

      Have a great evening!

I seriously doubt we'll do any for the older kits. The sales are likely to be in the double digits at best. The Minicraft kits are pretty awful, and these days, most modelers aren't interested in fixing bad kits.

How do the 737 classic and NG fins differ anyway? Do I understand correctly that they have the same basic fin, but the NG has a root extension and a bigger ventral fin?

The classic fin is in grey, with the NG behind it in white. The common point is the leading edge of the fin fillet.

And here they are with the upper edge at the same level.

Thanks for those drawings, good stuff. I never realized that the taper at the back was different either, I always thought the stabilizer extensions were the only reason for the minor length increase from the 300 to 700.

What's an optical illusion, the stabilizer length or the tailcone length?
