      Greetings,

I wanted to share my build of a Northwest DC-10-40 that I did using the Authentic Airliners DC-10-30 kit with the AA MD-11 GE Engines to stand in for the JT9D's. Kurt was kind enough to let have a set for the project. I really like the way it came out and they look pretty good.

I really want to see your DC-10-40
I love that bird, I started a project some 10+ yrs ago. As a matter of fact, I got the scale plans from a lady modeler on the AMD. She is part of this group now.
Boy, time goes by so fast! I just found my AMD yellow T-shirt in the closet!!

I will really want to do a 40 in NM colors one day before I depart the the pattern.

      Log in the cafe
      go to "My files"
load the picture (I recommend no more 600 dpi)
and then use the image icons to post it!

      Hi all,

I really appreciate Amhed`s work to keep this site up and running but I hate the upload function. I am an old guy, not too familiar with computers. It would be a great improvement to facilitate the upload function. I have a lot of pictures in the pipeline but simply cannot makeŽem visible here. Maybe a new technology modeller on airlinercafe can help us and improve the situation?

Photos uploaded to the database have to be approved first. You can see in the URL he provided, it says "inactive". I don't know how to make that more clear. Even if the photos were approved already, you would not be able to see them with that URL.

      These are the photos:

      Hi Ahmed,

      Thanks for the assist.

So how does one use the "Image Icon" to get a pic that has been activated posted into the forum? Also, I do not see a way to put the pics into my photo album either.

      Thanks again,

      Mark

You're welcome, Mark. Use the little icons above the text editor to insert images into the post. For photos from the photo database, it's just a matter of inserting [photoid=xxxxxxx].
      Code:
      [photoid=26799]
      will produce this:

When viewing the photo page, the photo albums section is at the very bottom, right side.

Yes, we need a new Text Editor that will allow you to upload images directly into a Forum Post. That's coming...just got another hobby that's getting in the way. If you think modeling is expensive, try woodworking. Lol

      Back to the DC-10-40 Mark.
      Beautiful bird, thanks for sharing!
So, tell us more about the build please.
Is is a DC-10-30 AA kit with MD-11 PW engines?
      I got to have one!

      Walter

P.S. Ahmed, loading pictures in the site is really not user friendly! Think old fart!

      Hi Walter,

I used an Authentic Airliners DC-10-30 kit to start with. Kurt let me have a set of the MD-11 GE Engines to use in lieu of getting some JT9D-20 Engines. There are none out there so that is as good as it gets. In reality, at 1/144 scale, there really is not much of a difference in size from what I could find out. The #2 Nacelle did not fit without some modifications to the hot section. Also, I trimmed off the back flange that extends over the #2 Hot section to the correct length for a JT9D-20 Engines using photo references. I used the excess part to fill in in front of the flange to mate it to the tail. A cleaner way to do it, would be to get the whole tail section of the MD-11 GE Kit and use it instead of the DC-10-30 kit tail and engines. That would be a "bolt on" solution if Kurt could do a run of MD-11 Engines and Tails for a DC-10-40 kit.

The AA kit or the Airfix DC-10-30 Kits are in the correct starting configuration for a Northwest DC-10-40 with JT9D-20 Engines added in. A JAL DC-10-40 with the JT9D-59 Engines would be better suited to starting with the EE DC-10-30 Kit if you can actually build it. BraZ does a JT9D-59 Engine for the Airbus which might make a good donor Engine for that project. You would have to change the pylons and kit bash an EE DC-10-30 with a EE MD-11 Kit for the #2 Engine Nacelle.

The difference is the updated fairings that the DC-10 got in her later years. The JAL Jet seems to come with all of the updates discussed in the DC-10 Ultimate DC-10 Guide on the site:

      Hope that helps,
