Question for those in the know on Pam Am. At what point was the last version of the Pan Am titles introduced? What I am referring to are the titles with the rounded legs on the letters, as opposed to the angular legs. It was some point in the early 1970s, as several 747s were delivered with the old titles. Corresponding with the new titles was the change to the curved font and much larger size for the aircraft Clipper names. Related to that question, how many 747s were delivered with the old titles?

      Thanks,
      Mike

      Mike-

You might want to do a search on this subject on this site. Seems like there was a discussion on Pan Am typefaces here, several years ago. Good hunting! ;-)

Stipulated that it's been years since I looked at that, but I believe the earliest verified date of a photo I have ever seen with the later style titles was 1973. Almost the entire 747-121 fleet (if not the whole fleet) was delivered with the 1950s style titles.

After fairly lengthy periods of checking tail by tail, it does appear that the entire -121 fleet was indeed delivered in the older titles.

      Thanks
