Does anyone have a good drawing that shows the differences between the basic 880 and the 880-M wing?

I'd be very interested in seeing a drawing or photo of this difference as well. As I understand, the -M added slats and krueger flaps to the leading edge?

      Thanks!

      Greetings!

It's kind of funny... TWA and Delta urged Convair to put LED's on the 880 to improve performance. Then, when it cost more as it certainly would, did not want to pay for it, so they were the only buyers who did not have it on their airplanes. However, they bought the lions share of the 880, so 48 of them were the standard model and only 17 were the 880-M. The 880-M does have the dogtooth leading edge extension outboard of #s 2 and 3 engines, but most publications I have seen strangely do not list any difference in wing area between the 2 models, but there certainly is an increase in area on the 880-M. The 707-320B and C models also have a similar leading edge dogtooth outboard of #s 2 and 3 as the 880-M does.

My first ride on a jet was on a Delta Convair 880 from MSY to ORD and I have always considered the 880 to be an absolutely beautiful airliner, especially in that Delta Golden Crown 880 all white scheme. It looks like it's doing 500 knots just sitting on the ramp!

      Regards,
      Jeff Jarvis

Hey Jeff, I've read your comment about your first jet flight MSY to ORD before. Just curious, did you grow up in the New Orleans area?
