The brainchild of a Syrian-born attorney, Super International Airlines was planned to fill a gap in the West German charter business, basing his Supair out of Munich and Stuttgart (which lacked airline operations bases-making charter flights more expensive.) Unfortunately, Supair never got it's wings!
Supair was formed in 1979 by Dr. Mohammed Ziad Niam Al Kawadri, Ph D., who was then residing in West Germany. His plan to base his charter airline in Munich, quickly became a favorable idea and (6) German tour operators, including ADAC (the West German Automobile Club), signed up with the planned Super International Airlines. Another important company to come aboard was ACI, which was representing Jahn Travel (which specialized in transporting chickens for the international meat market!)
Dr. Kawadri began the work of finding an A/C and pilots next. Maersk Air was contacted and (2) 737-2L9's were signed up for a lease/purchase agreement, as West German law stated that no new airline can commence operations with a leased A/C. The 1st Supair 737, "Bayern", would remain leased as OY-APL, while it was used for training the new Supair crews, of which six-2 pilot crews were beginning the Maersk provided training. A $29 million order for (2) brand new 737-200's was placed in 1979 by Dr. Kawadri, plus (2) options. The first (2) 737-2X4's were set for delivery in the spring and autumn of 1981 and would be the HGW variant, which featured the extra tankage and the P&W JT8D-17R engines that would be needed for the long stage lengths of the the planned West African routes.
Reportedly, the color scheme combination was to be different on each of the 737's, the first being the Blue/Pink OY-APL which soon was to be registered as D-ADDA. Dr. Kawadri planned to begin operations in November 1980 and was already working on expanding to Gatwick (on behalf of German Tours) and adding to the Supair fleet, a DC-8-71.
Unfortunately for the good Dr., the West German authorities refused to grant an operating license to Super International Airlines! The sole 'Supair' 737-2L9 would have it's titles removed by Maersk but remained in the Supair scheme well into 1981, as there are quite a few photos of the Maersk Blue/Pink OY-APL! Based on the (1) 'Lassey' reply below, Dr. Kawadri has had an 'interesting' history since his Supair days.........John

I think Dr. Kawadri may suffer from color blindness!
